In keeping statistics about NW Oregon, the
U.S. Census Bureau recognizes seven counties as belonging to the Portland
metropolitan area. Five of the seven are in the northern portion of the
Willamette Valley, which straddles the Willamette River as it flows from
its headwaters, south of Eugene, to the Columbia River.
Each county's official web site is linked
below along with general information about the county. All
statistics are from the most current data available. Income statistics are
from the 2000 census. Please see the bottom of this page for
category explanations.
